The Plan

This is my attempt at starting a blog. My intention is to update you all on major projects that I am working on. However, as most projects go, I will become rushed for time on things and forget to take pictures or write about what I have done. If I start to slip, please let me know. Thanks

I was asked to create Dame Maera's Knighting coat to be presented to her for her second belt: a well deserved flame belt. In my style, I plan on making it grand.

I found a venetian style overdress with a split in the sleeves. As Maera tends to the warm side, this will enable her to take her arms out of the sleeves if she gets too warm. While it will clasp in the front, it can also be warn open like a cloak. Because her favorite color is blue, the coat will be blue with a white lining. Per her request, it will be made of linen.

Now for the part that everyone thinks I am crazy about: The applique on this coat will be extensive. On each sleeve there will be a celtic inspired dragon holding a rose. The wings and tail will have the celtic knotwork. The white phoenix will encompass the back of the coat. The lapel will have her personal heraldy. The bottom of this dress will have a flame pattern. The edge will have a celtic knot of snakes running all the way around. I know it is ambitious. I am excited to do it.

I hope to purchase fabric this week and start working on the pattern. However, once the pattern is done, I won't be adding any pictures until the coat is presented. I want it to be a surprise.

A Wrench in the Plans

Unfortunately, Dame Maera passed away before she could be knighted. I have the fabric for this coat, but will be making a coat for myself instead, per the wishes of her husband.

If you would like to donate to her cause, click the picture belowe. The cause is a noble one.
